There is still time to join AIPN’s Asia Chapter and SPE Singapore for a presentation on “The Baker Hughes and GE Oil & Gas Merger”, which has been called “the most transformative combination in modern oil and gas history.” Coming on the heels of a failed attempt by Halliburton to acquire Baker Hughes, this deal is unique in terms of deal structure and objectives. Visal Leng, Asia Pacific President of Baker Hughes, a GE company and Dr. Nathan Meehan, 2016 SPE President and President of Gaffney, Cline & Associates will go over the context, history and goals of this merger.
Dr. D. Nathan Meehan is President of Gaffney, Cline & Associates and the 2016 President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Previously he was President of CMG Petroleum Consulting; Vice President of Engineering for Occidental Oil & Gas; and General Manager, Exploration & Production Services for Union Pacific Resources. Dr. Meehan holds a BSc in Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University. With more than 40 years experience, he served as Chairman of the Board of the CMG Reservoir Simulation Foundation and twice as a Director of the Computer Modelling Group, Ltd., as Director of Vanyoganeft Oil Company, Nizhnyvartosk, Russia, as Director of Pinnacle Technologies, Inc., as a Director of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and as a Director of JOA Oil & Gas BV. He is an SPE Distinguished Member and the recipient of SPE’s Lester C. Uren Award for Distinguished Achievement in Petroleum Engineering, the Degolyer Distinguished Service Medal and the SPE Public Service Award. He recently received the World Oil Lifetime Achievement Award. He serves on the boards of the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Strategic Energy Institute and the Penn State and University of Texas petroleum engineering departments. He is an appointed member of the Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission and widely published author. Dr. Meehan is a licensed professional engineer in four states.
Visal Leng leads Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE) in Asia Pacific. In this role, his primary goals are to ensure BHGE delivers value to its customers and expands its footprint and capabilities in the region. Asia Pacific covers China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Visal has been with GE, and now BHGE for more than 20 years, holding roles of increasing responsibilities in sales, finance, quality and overall business leader across the Plastics, Infrastructure, Water and Oil and Gas divisions in Europe, Americas and Asia. He was appointed an Officer of GE in December 2016. Visal holds a Master of Civil Engineering from the Ecole Spéciale des Travaux Publics, Paris, France. He is based in Singapore.
